August Bullet Journal Setup

That’s right, you blinked and all of a sudden, it’s time for my August Bullet Journal Setup. For my August setup, I chose sharks for my theme. I also decided to throw it back to my old days of journaling and brought out my Distress Inks to create some fun backgrounds. So expect EXTRA! There are 2 videos today, yes TWO. One, I am sharing some information on creating the spinner cover page in my bullet Journal. The second video, I am sharing my full setup. There is a lot of information so I hope you enjoy today’s post.

August Bullet Journal Setup Cover Page

As mentioned earlier, there are 2 videos. Here is the video for how I made my cover page. Again, I didn’t include detailed instructions since my notebook is B5 sized which is bigger than the standard A5 size so the measurements would be off for an A5 size.

A couple of tips when putting a spin wheel together:

  • MEASURE! And for the people in the back, MEASURE! I’ve mentioned in previous tutorials, do a practice page first before you start cutting into your journal.
  • I used a compass to measure my circle in my journal, and make sure to cut your second circle (the moving piece) a little bigger so that the edges stick out from the cut line in your journal.
  • Do you sketches first before cutting anything in your notebook. This helps to be sure that your cut lines are in the right place.
  • Umm, this should be a no brainer but apparently I struggle with this. Don’t use a dull knife to cut into your journal. I did and it made a huge mess.
  • If possible, do as much of the decorating at possible before gluing the pieces. This way you avoid lumps and bumps.
  • Repositionable or removable tape can be a life saver. I used removable tape to line my moving circle up with my journal window, allowing me to glue the mechanism in place.
  • Try and reinforce as much of the moving parts as possible. Making these parts thicker means they are less likely to tear further down the road.

For the actual mechanism that turns the page, you can check out the tutorial here, at The Pop-Up Channel. I have yet to come up with a better solution but will post a tutorial as soon as I do.

There really isn’t much else to this. It may look complicated and complex but it is actually super simple to put together. With that said, if you have more questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I am more than happy to answer any additional questions.

Monthly Tasks Page

The next page I wanted to talk about is my Monthly Tasks page. So for this page, I am using the 1-3-5 Method, and no, it’s not referring to a dress shop in Mean Girls (although that’s all I keep thinking). It’s to help prioritize your task list. It’s probably more effective to use this daily, but for now, I am trying this monthly. I was inspired by My Inner Creative to try this method so for more information on how she uses it, you can check out her blog post here.

Basically, you allow yourself 1 big, important task, 3 slightly smaller but still significant tasks, and then 5 smaller tasks. My intention is to use this monthly task list in tandem with my Cultivate What Matters Goal Planner. I tend to forget my Goal Planner on the side and then revisit it when it’s check in time and sometimes have forgotten what I wanted to do, or what I’ve done. So hoping to use this fun layout to get stuff done.

I will be using sticky notes on the colourful page and transferring them over to the priorties page. I think I will add more tasks as they get done, and hopefully get ahead on some of my business tasks.

Weekly Setup

The next layout that I am changing up a bit is my weekly layout. I am still keeping my Alaistair Method but I am throwing in a memory keeping aspect.

A few people have asked about it so I thought, why not! I have more space in the B5 so I can definitely share ways to add some memory keeping to your weekly layouts. I will be sharing the completed layouts on social media so that you can get a better idea of the completed layout.

August Bullet Journal Setup Final Thoughts

I am so excited to be in a B5 again. My only hesitation I’ve had about it is from the last time I was in a B5. I burnt out creatively and paused bullet journaling for a year. I also had a baby at the time so I am trying to remind myself of that. Since I was reliving my B5 days, I did want to bring back my super creative, colourful layouts since I have missed doing them. I will change to more simplistic creativity if needed, but for now, I am happy with this.

If you are looking for more setup inspiration for A5 journals, you can check out my August 2020 setup or my last setup for July 2021.

Let me know what you think down below, and also what your theme for August is. Hope you are doing well and taking care of yourself. Also, as always, if there is anything you would like to see, or more information on a specific topic, just reach out, either below, by email, or on social media, and I will be happy to help.
